Roll The Dice is my first application to be published on the Google Play Store. After getting started with android development I thought about creating something that would challenge me. Creating a dice application seemed appropriate to begin with. Hence, I developed this application to get started with android development and as an individual app developer.
Before there was Android, there were Samsung phones running BADA OS which was written in C++. One of my friends phones had a dice application on his BADA OS Samsung phone. Rethinking on that, I decided to make a similar version of the dice application by adding more useful functionalities.
- In Roll The Dice, the user can select up to five dice at once and roll them together.
- Roll the dice also calculates the total and gives you the addition result of the total number of dice rolled.
- You can shake your device or tap on the screen to Roll The Dice.
- The user interface is designed in such a way that it would simulate the rolling of a real dice on your smartphone. Therefore choosing a wooden textured background would give a genuine feel as if you are actually rolling the die in the real world
I published the application on my birthday on 24th January 2014. I only told a couple of friends about the application and posted a photo on Instagram about launching my first app on the play store.
Upon launch, Roll The Dice was also trending on the Play Store in the Games category for about 3 weeks. To my surprise, within 6 months of launch, the app was downloaded more than 10,000 times from more than 10 countries.
This encouraged me to create more applications and made me fell in love with android development.
